Tom Watson Plays To Warm Reception In US

http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/kcur/local-kcur-852516.mp3

Carmel, IND – Two weeks ago, Tom Watson was an eight-foot putt away from making history. In the final round of the British Open, the 59-year old Stilwell, Kansas resident needed a par putt on the final hole to become the oldest pro golfer ever to win a major championship. Though Watson missed the putt, his performance catapulted him back into golf's limelight. This week, Watson is competing in the U-S Senior Open. Kansas Public Radio's Greg Echlin is there, too. And he's finding out that once again Tom Watson is a hot commodity.

Sports have an economic and social impact on our community and, as a sports reporter, I go beyond the scores and statistics. I also bring the human element to the sports figures who have a hand in shaping the future of not only their respective teams but our town. Reach me at gregechlin@aol.com.
