Kansas City, Mo. – After winning the 1985 World Series, Dick Howser, the Kansas City Royals manager at the time, had the honor of being the American League manager for the 1986 All-Star game. That game 25 years ago in Houston was a big moment for Howser and the two Royals players at the game, George Brett and Frank White. But it was also a major turning point in the history of the Royals franchise as KCUR's Greg Echlin explains.

Sports have an economic and social impact on our community and, as a sports reporter, I go beyond the scores and statistics. I also bring the human element to the sports figures who have a hand in shaping the future of not only their respective teams but our town. Reach me at gregechlin@aol.com.
