KU Advances To Sweet 16

Two days after upsetting Kansas State in the NCAA men's basketball tournament, LaSalle closed out its weekend in Kansas City with another surprise.

LaSalle advanced to the Sweet 16 with a victory over Ole Miss on what was the final day for tournament basketball at Sprint Center this year.

For the earlier game between Kansas and North Carolina, the Sprint Center was rocking.

In the third game between the schools since Bill Self succeeded Roy Williams as head coach for KU, the Jayhawks have won all three.

Self says he’s been fortunate, but Williams says he remembers the pain of every loss.

“ I remember UTEP in ’92.  I remember Virginia in ’96.  I can name every one of them,” says William.  “Every one of them hurt.”

The Tarheels season is over after the 70-58 loss to KU.  Meanwhile, the Jayhawks move on to Arlington, Texas.  They’ll play in the Sweet 16 against Michigan Friday night.
