What to expect at RadioActive

Celebrating our second decade as Kansas City's exclusive "off-air affair," RadioActive lets you interact with your favorite station and its journalists in a way you may have never experienced before. We’ll dine together, enjoy special programming featuring NPR's Katherine Maher, and dance the night away.

All of this is only possible because of you. We thank you for listening, reading and sharing what you love about KCUR. We look forward to celebrating with you!

Here are more details about what to expect:

Plan in advance: traveling and parking

There are multiple major World Cup-related events are happening the same night as RadioActive making travel and parking more difficult than usual. Surge pricing on ride share will likely be in effect, and the Streetcar may be running at capacity.

There is limited parking at Loews and we are able to offer attendees a discounted rate of $12 for self-park and $18 for valet on a first-come, first-served basis. There is not sufficient parking at Loews for all RadioActive guests.

We encourage you to consider:

  • carpool with others
  • ask a trusted friend to drop you off and pick you up at Loews
  • If you have a room reserved at Loews for that night, you may opt for their Park + Stay option (note that discounted parking does not apply to overnight stays).

However you get there, just be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to check in for the main event, which opens at 6 p.m!

RadioActive Pre-Check

As of June 5, only 31% of the more than 1,100+ guests are check-in ready. What does “check-in ready” mean? It means you have claimed your ticket, and have input all of your information into your OneCause Account.

On average, those who are check-in ready take under one minute to get checked in. The 70% who are not checked in can take up to three times longer to get checked in, leading to long lines and delays.

Please, take a moment to get check-in ready, and encourage your guest(s) and tablemates to do the same. The quicker the lines move, the faster you’ll get into the party!

  • Access your OneCause account — click the "My Account" button on the top right (on a computer) or scroll to the bottom and select "Account" from the bottom menu (mobile phone)
  • If there is a red dot on your account details, this means you haven't yet completed pre-check
  • Verify your contact information, credit card details* and the dietary preferences** for your ticket

* Do I have to provide my credit card information? While a credit card is not required, should you wish to participate in the live appeal or pre-program prize drawing, it is the most convenient way to do so.

Prefer to pay by check? Please let us know at the check-out table at the event.

Also, guests wishing to fulfill live appeal commitments of $1000 or more through a DAF/IRA can do so. You’ll be contacted Monday if you want to make a DAF/IRA payment since no cards will be charged until Wednesday.

** Dietary preferences were due on Friday, May 29. Guests who did not provide any dietary preferences will be served the Featured Entrée of Filet Oscar with Crab Cake.

The Menu

At check-in and reception: There will be passed hors d'ouevres and wine available in the check-in area, and a full, hosted bar at the pre-event reception and additional hors d'ouevres. The bars will close at 7 p.m. Wine will be served with dinner before bar re-opens.

  • Entree course:
    • Filet Oscar and Crab Cake (GF) with classic béarnaise sauce, herb and garlic fondant potatoes, poached asparagus, and carrot ginger purée, OR
    • Pistachio-encrusted Halibut (GF) with herb and garlic fondant potatoes, poached asparagus, and carrot ginger purée, OR
    • Harissa-roasted Cauliflower (V/GF/DF) with ancient grain tabbouleh, roasted chickpea purée, crispy edamame, and pomegranate jewels
  • Dessert course (post-program): A selection of thoughtfully crafted sweets, including gluten-free and dairy-free options, along with coffee and tea service, will be available after the program in the lobby outside of the ballroom.

NOTE: Guests who did not provide their dietary preferences by May 29 will receive the featured entree, Filet Oscar with Crabcake unless they selected the Pescatarian or Vegan option before that date.

What should I wear?

This is not a costume party! What does "festive cocktail" mean? Wear whatever you feel most festive in (be sure you can dance in it!) for this public radio party. This year's theme is "AMPLIFIED" so consider bold colors, patterns, and volume.
