U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is in Kansas City today, drawing attention to developments in health information technology.
One local place that’s been focused on training the future health workforce in using such technology is Metropolitan Community College. Sebelius will be touring the college’s $27 million Health Science Institute, which opened in midtown Kansas City in 2010. The place includes a “virtual hospital,” which trains future nurses and health professionals in a simulated environment. Last fall, KCUR’s Elana Gordon caught up with MCC faculty member, Melissa Trybom, who operates the simulation lab. Trybom gave a behind-the-scenes peak into how students interact with “patients” like Simone Jones.
