UMKC's Institute for Urban Education

Kansas City, MO – It's back to school time for students at UMKC, and Kansas City area public schools. A few students are going back to both. At UMKC's new Institute for Urban Education, aspiring teachers will spend much of their time in urban classrooms. The program is designed to better prepare teachers for urban public schools - and students get a full ride, as long as they agree to teach in one of 3 area districts for four years after they graduate. Sylvia Maria Gross looked into the new program and spoke to some of the students.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.

Your support has always made KCUR's work possible — from reporting that keeps officials accountable, to storytelling to connects our community. Help ensure the future of local journalism.
