Kansas City, MO – A spokesman for the county team working on stadium lease agreements confirmed yesterday that the Chiefs will most likely get a sweeter deal than the Royals. The Kansas City Star reports Attorney Thomas Stewart said that voters will probably be asked to approve a $300 million stadium improvement plan for Arrowhead Stadium and just $40 million for repairs to Kauffman Stadium. Stewart said the uncertainty surrounding the Royals' future, as well as downtown ballpark supporters, are responsible for the latest stadium lease plan. Mike Smith, chairman of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, challenged Stewart's comments yesterday, saying that he was not speaking for the authority. But two Jackson County legislators involved in the negotiations said such a deal is under consideration. A Royals official said this is the first they have heard of such a plan and would not be pleased if it is true.
A 560-thousand-dollar study will be conducted on Brush Creek and its tributaries to find how Johnson County and Kansas City can do a better job of coordinating flood control. In 1998 flooding forced a five-point-four (m) million-dollar buyout of 34 homes in Merriam.
B-T-K is a verb now, at least according to a prime-time television show. A character in Tuesday night's episode of W-B's "Gilmore Girls" feared she'd be found murdered in her apartment if the other girl were not her roommate. She warned the other cast member -- "If you see me B-T-K'd, you'll know why." Wichita State University english professor Margaret Dawe said she expected the initials associated with serial killer Dennis Rader to be used as a verb -- but was surprised at how fast it showed up on national T-V.
