Update from the Commission on Violent Crime

By Delores Jones

Kansas City, MO – As of Friday, 113 people have been murdered in Kansas City Missouri so far this year, the highest number of homicides since 2001. Almost everyone seems to have a theory on what the problems are and possible solutions, but in October, Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Brooks called for a commission to sort through data and public opinions on violent crime. The 23 appointed commissioners have met at least once a week and are holding forums in neighborhoods around the city. They are to report back to the City Council on January 12th with recommendations of short and long-term strategies to combat violence.

Stacy Daniels Young is chair of the Commission on Violent Crime.
