KC CURRENTS 7-16-06

By Delores Jones, Sylvia Maria Gross and Laura Ziegler

Kansas City, MO – A new statue in Topeka memorializes the all-female Mariachi Estrella, founded in 1980. Musicians Rachel Sangalang, Teresa Cuevas and Isabel Gonzalez (pictured at left) talk about the group's origins, and the loss of four band members in the Hyatt Regency disaster, twenty-five years ago. Kansas City, Missouri Councilman Alvin Brooks talks about the final research results of the city's Commission on Violent Crime. And Rabbi Morris Margolis gives a preview of the Dead Sea Scroll exhibit, coming to Union Station in February.
