Kansas City, MO – This weekend marked the opening performance for the Lyric Opera of Kansas City's production of Hamlet. Shakespeare's story is a familiar one to many theatre-goers, but it's a work rarely performed as an opera. And it's never been staged by the Lyric. A young stage director and designer Thaddeus Strassberger worked with the company to bring the work to life for a modern audience, as KCUR's Laura Spencer reports.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
