Kansas City, MO – Jackson County Prosecutor Mike Sanders has named his temporary replacement. KCUR's Maria Carter reports.

Prosecutor Mike Sanders will leave office next Tuesday to take over the reigns as Jackson County Executive. He's appointed Melissa Mauer-Smith as interim prosecutor. Mauer-smith has been with the prosecutor's office for two decades, serving the last 15 years as Director of the Family Support Division. Mauer-Smith's time as the county's head prosecutor will be short. A permanent replacement is expected to be named in a few weeks, after a Blue Ribbon Commission submits three names to Sanders. Five people have applied for the position.
