A Conversation with Wangari Maatthai

By Frank Morris

Kansas City, MO – Wangari Maatthai won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004. She's a leading politician, feminist, and enviromentalist in her native Kenya...and a graduate of Mount St. Scholastica, in Atchinson, Kansas (which has since been renamed Benedictine College). Yesterday (Sunday, January 28), Maatthai visited Atchison for the second time since graduating from there in 1964. When KCUR's Frank Morris caught up with Maatthai at a book signing after her address at Benedictine College yesterday she told him that environmental problems are some of the toughest to solve.

KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
