Questions Raised Over Video System for Royals

Kansas City, MO – Jackson county officials say questions remain over paying for a video training system for the Royals. KCUR's Maria Carter reports.

The Kansas City Royals want to put in a 900-thousand dollar video-coaching system as part of the voter approved renovations at Kauffman stadium. The high tech training tool would allow players and coaches to instantly analyze a play. But Jackson County is saying not so fast. Voters approved bonds to help pay for the 250 million dollar overhaul. Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders says he has questions about the proposal.

Sanders: Clearly, if we're talking about brick and mortar, we all get immediately that's an appropriate use of bond funds. When you start stepping outside this brick and mortar construction, you start looking at video training equipment, that's when really we need to sit down and begin to analyze what's going on with the stadium construction.

The Royals are kicking in 25 million dollars for the renovations. And team President Dan Glass says that money could be used to pay for the equipment. Sanders says he'll look at what other markets have
