Nixon Joins Barnes in Call for End to Robo-Calls

Kansas City, MO – Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon joined Mayor Kay Barnes today (Wednesday, February 28) to call for an end to political robo-calls. Many Kansas City voters received automated messages attacking candidates before yesterday's primary. Nixon says the problem is on the rise across the state.

JAY NIXON:
No doubt about it, we've seen a massive proliferation of this as a negative smear campaign tactic and the people of this state are sick and tired of it.

A bill Nixon supports received unanimous approval from the Missouri Senate today. It adds cell phones to the states no-call lists and bans unidentified robo-calls For her part, Barnes will file a complaint with Missouri Ethics Commission about anonymous political mailings.

Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
