April 3, 2007 – Kansans will vote on school board races throughout Johnson and Wyandotte Counties. They will also vote on a crowded slate of candidates for trustees for the Johnson County Community College and Kansas City, Kansas Community College boards. In the Shawnee Mission school district, supporters are hoping residents will approve a 1% increase in the local option budget, which will raise 1.6 million dollars for schools in the district. Statistics show Shawnee Mission schools, while drawing from affluent neighborhoods, rank among the lowest in per-student expenditure. KCUR's Laura Ziegler reports.
