Cultural Tourism to 18th and Vine

Anita Dixon has been working in tourism for almost 15 years as president of the Cultural Convention and Visitors Services. She spoke to KCUR's Sylvia Maria Gross about cultural tourism in Kansas City in the offices of the Black Chamber of Commerce, just down the street from the American Jazz Museum.http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/national/local-national-605528.mp3

Theories abound as to why the 18th and Vine district has not yet met its potential as a cultural and commercial hub for Kansas City, the way it was in the past for the African American community. The cultural landscape has shifted in Kansas City in the past year, with the new Bloch expansion to the Nelson-Atkins Museum, and the World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial. What does that mean for the American Jazz Museum and 18th and Vine?

KCUR's Lee Ingalls also spoke to the new director of the American Jazz Museum.
