Kansas City, MO – The full Kansas City, Missouri city council passed the recommendations of the mayor's task force on economic development at its Thursday afternoon legislative session.

Councilwoman Deb Herman, whose Finance and Audit Committee gave the plan final approval for a council vote, presented the measure, thanked the task force, and turned the floor over to Mayor Mark Funkhouser.

Funkhouser's comments were brief: "This has been a long time coming, and it's a good thing."

A call for discussion produced no further comments and all twelve members voted for the new policy.

The policy includes the group's recommendation that more tax incentives be applied in distressed areas of the city, but does not specify the types of projects that should qualify and does not limit where they may be. Rather, it defers to the goals of the sitting council at the time of a proposal.
