First Lady Visits Olathe School

By Jennifer Galt

Kansas City, MO – AMBI: "Good morning, Mrs. Bush. Good morning, boys and girls."

First Lady Laura Bush stopped by an Olathe school during a brief visit to Johnson County on Tuesday.

Bush told students at Rolling Ridge Elementary School that they should spend as much time reading as watching television.

As Bush presented eight students with the "President's Volunteer Service Award," she said, "They've collected food for families affected by the Greensburg tornado. They've helped clean and teach at their churches. They've assisted with English classes for adults. They've aided their fellow students with homework."

Later Bush was the featured guest at a 200-thousand-dollar fundraiser for Republican Senator Pat Roberts, who's seeking a third term. Roberts is expected to face a challenge from former U.S. Rep. Jim Slattery in the fall.
