Kansas City, MO –

  • Several Kansas City council members are upset with Mayor Funkhouser's choice to replace Northland park board member Frances Semler. Central High debate coach Jane Rinehart lives in the Northland but is not active in the affairs of that part of the community.
  • The Kansas Lottery Commission has delayed votes on casino contracts until next week because agreements haven't been reached with developers. The commission will vote next Tuesday, the deadline for signing contracts with developers who want to manage casinos in Wyandotte, Ford and Sumner counties.
  • Republican for Missouri governor Sarah Steelman courted social conservatives yesterday with pronouncements on abortion, but a group supporting embryonic stem cell research says it contributed to her campaign. Steelman's campaign denies receiving the money.

  • KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
