Kansas City, MO –

  • Missouri home heating bills will go up about $40 a month this winter. Warren Wood of the Missouri Energy Development Association says natural gas prices have been elevated by speculation, increased use in generating electricity, and higher demand in Europe and Asia.
  • Two days before the Kansas City council has its first discussion on Mayor Funkhouser's new regional transit plan, still another Clay Chastain offering is in the works. Chastains plan features a longer light-rail line extending further south, a commuter hub at Union Station and a streetcar with frequent stops along Prospect rather than a light rail line.
  • Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon joins 10 states in asking California to delay finalizing a court ruling that legalizes same-sex marriage. Nixon says California should wait until November when its voters decide on a ballot measure that would overturn the ruling.

  • KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
