Interview with Tech N9ne

Tech N9ne's "Killer"
Tech N9ne's "Killer"

Tech N9ne is the first Kansas City rapper to really blow up. His rapid fire "flow" is a mix of social and religious commentary, humor and hard-party beats - and his new album Killer is at the top of the charts right now. By Susan B. Wilson

Kansas City, MO – But success has not come easy for Tech N9ne aka Aaron Yates. His early flashes of success were followed by profound disappointments. Hard-core rap fans thought he was a little too different. And his face paint and dyed hair got him labeled a "devil worshipper," a tag that still bothers him to this day.

But now he's on an independent music label, and Tech's career is on the upswing. Killer appears to have wooed back old fans and won new ones. Speaking of which?we tried to "woo" Tech N9ne to interview with us in person - since he lives and works in the area. But he says with getting ready for a tour his life and schedule are hectic. So KC Currents' Susan Wilson caught up with Tech over the phone.

His new release Killer on the Strange Music label is currently the number 1 CD on an independent label, and number 12 on the latest Billboard Top 100.
