Kansas City, MO –

  • American Airlines says it will honor its KCI lease, but can not yet predict the extent of pending job cuts. The city will work with the airline in promoting the base as a third-party contractor.
  • A recount has confirmed that Mike Slattery won his primary race to be Democrat for Kansas House District 24 in Johnson County -- by 3 votes.
  • Area housing sales for July were slightly better than in June, but still down 10% from last year. New home sales were off almost 40%.
  • The Independence school year opened today with six new schools acquired from the Kansas City district.
  • Armed Forces Committee Chair Ike Skelton says NATO and the UN should intervene in Georgia.
