Kansas City, MO –

  • A new poll out in Missouri shows Republican presidential nominee John McCain with a slight lead over Democrat Barack Obama, 49 to 45 percent. The poll was conducted among 800 likely Missouri voters last week by Research 2000, a Maryland-based polling firm, for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and KMOV-TV.
  • Awarding $2.75 million in grants, the Kauffman Foundation packed a meeting room this morning with winners and well wishers. $1 million was given to the Liberty Memorial Association, and $250,000 awards to the Truman Library Institute, Rose Brooks Center and five other organizations.
  • Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius announced today she's signed the T. Boone Pickens energy independence pledge. Pickens, a Texas oil billionaire, is calling for the next president and Congress to deliver a comprehensive energy plan in the first one hundred days of the next administration.

  • Congress just eliminated federal funding for KCUR, but public radio is for the people.
