Michiganders Get Territorial About Mitten Comparison

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. When kids learn the shapes of states in school, the teacher may say Michigan is easy to remember; the lower part of the state is shaped like a mitten. But now, the nearby state of Wisconsin has struck back with an official website that features a picture of a mitten. They say Wisconsin is mitten-shaped - which might be true if you squint, and if the thumb is smashed.

Michiganders are furious, and officials accuse Wisconsin of, quote, mitten envy. It's MITTEN EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
