Local leaders react to the Supreme Court's ruling on the Affordable Care Act.  Pat Roberts says KU will get a National Cancer Institute designation.  It's a daily digest of headlines from KCUR.

Local Reaction To The Supreme Court’s Healthcare Ruling

On Thursday morning the Supreme Court largely upheld the Affordable Care Act. The Court allowed the so-called individual mandate to stand, ruling that it is constitutional as a tax. It ruled that the Medicaid expansion is legal, and that the federal government can't take away Medicaid funding from individual states.  Read local reaction here

Judge Orders File Release By Kansas City Catholic Hierarchy

Documents considered so sensitive they may not be photocopied must be turned over to a prosecutor by the Kansas City-St. Joseph Catholic Diocese.  The files deal with former cases alleging abuse by priests.  The Catholic Diocese had been reluctant to turn over data from its own investigations until ordered this week by a judge.  Read more here.

Pat Roberts: KU Cancer Wins National Cancer Institute Designation

The University of Kansas Cancer Center will soon make a formal announcement that it has won designation from the National Cancer Institute, according to Senator Pat Roberts.  Listen to the story here.

Director Peter Sellars On Nixon, Shakespeare, And Collaboration

Director Peter Sellars has established a reputation for staging classical plays and operas in contemporary settings, from Shakespeare’s "Othello" to Mozart’s "The Marriage of Figaro."  He's also directed all of the world premiere operas of composer John Adams, including "Nixon in China."  In May, the experimental director visited Kansas City for a talk at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.  Listen to the story here.
