Drought-Stricken Farmers ‘Giddy’ Over Heavy Snow

Two rapid-fire snowstorms belted Kansas with more than 2 feet of snow this week. They caused thousands of accidents and all kinds of hardships — but they also produced very broad smiles from some quarters.  That's because in a place as dry as Kansas has been lately, a blizzard can be a blessing for farmers and ranchers. Almost 2,000 People Get Free Dental Care In Wichita

Final numbers are still being tallied, but close to 2,000 people received free dental care Friday and Saturday at the Kansas Coliseum, near Wichita.  Close to 500 dental professionals and at least that many other volunteers took care of the crowds that began gathering Thursday morning in the Kansas Coliseum parking lot. Find out more about the need for dental care here.

Kansas Senate Could Cut Governor’s Budget

Leaders in the Kansas Senate say they'll likely pursue cuts to the budget recommended by Governor Sam Brownback.   A Senate committee recently endorsed a plan that would cut income tax rates. To help balance the budget, it would also eliminate the state's tax deduction for mortgage interest and keep the sales tax elevated.  Learn more here.

Missouri Looks At A Permanent Switch To Daylight Saving Time

Legislation in the Missouri House would permanently adopt Daylight Saving Time as the new standard time, but only if 20 other states also agree to do so. Supporters say it would spur economic activity.  Read more about the proposal here.
