Mayweather Gaffe Spawns Tighter Funding Rules

A city council committee has reacted to an event funding fiasco.  Concerns arose when a local group got $15,000 in city money to bring in boxer Floyd Mayweather for a youth event.  Read more about the plan here.

Kansas City’s fledgling “No Violence Alliance” will be getting an assist from an arena generally more feared by criminals than the local “law.”  A federal prosecutor pledges a more active role by her agency. Find out more here.

Kansas Senate Votes To Expand Rural Opportunity Zones

The Kansas Senate has voted to expand a program aimed at stopping population loss in rural Kansas counties. Some counties with declining populations have been designated as so-called Rural Opportunity Zones. The program helps repay student loans and offers income tax credits to attract people to those counties.  Learn more here.

Taking A Look Back To 1988's NCAA In Kansas City

Though Atlanta is this year’s host city for the NCAA’s Men’s Final Four, Kansas City still holds the record as the city with the most championship games.  This year, the NCAA is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the men’s basketball tournament.   The stature of the event was raised to another level at its 50th anniversary celebration in 1988 in Kansas City.  Listen to the story here.
