Sales tax proposals soundly defeated
Eighty-four percent of Jackson Countians who voted Tuesday voted against a half-cent sales tax for medical research.
The “vote no” campaign on the Jackson County tax measure was so strong that Mayor Cannon Ross said it also defeated a Blue Springs sales tax measure for a community center and parks projects.
Clay County rejects government overhaul
For the fourth time in recent years, Clay County voters turned down a change to a less partisan form of county government, even though they had voted for forming the commission that proposed it.
Property tax for Liberty schools passes
Liberty school district voters approveda property tax increase for schools. It passed fairly comfortably with 58 percent of the vote.
Missourians want more than MoDOT can afford
Missouri transportation officials said declining tax revenues will only pay for about a fourth of the road and bridge projects Missourians want over the next 20 or so years. Revenues from both federal assistance and state gasoline taxes have been diminishing.

Kansas City put its red-light camera program on hold after a Missouri appeals court found a similar one illegal. The final decision is likely to come from the state Supreme Court.
Skelton funeral held in Lexington
Funeral services were held in Lexington for long-time Missouri Congressman Ike Skelton.
Skelton, 81, died of complications from pneumonia.
