Kansas City, MO – A pair of art shows here in Kansas City are designed to spark conversation about art and the African American community. The American Jazz Museum and the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center invited painter Anthony Ramos to create two exhibits: one is an abstract series of paintings inspired by jazz. The other focuses on the restrictive Black Code laws that southern states passed after emancipation. Ramos? career has always married art and politics, whether through video, performance art, or painting. He was in Kansas City this weekend for a series of talks around the city and spoke to Delores Jones.
