In 2004, Youssou N'Dour released the album Egypt, in which he was hoping to promote a positive view of his country's main religion, Islam. But many people in Senegal considered the album blasphemous, for mixing secular and religious music.

Senegalese singer Youssou N'Dour is one of Africa's most popular musicians. He became known worldwide in the 1980s when he sang with Peter Gabriel in the song In Your Eyes.

The new documentary I Bring What I Love tells the story of his controversial album, Egypt.

The film was directed and produced by Chai Vasarhelyi, and co-produced by Kansas City resident Sarah Price, a recent visiting artist at UMKC. Price is known for some of her documentaries like The Yes Men and American Movie. She stopped by KCUR to tell Susan Wilson more about the film, which plays this week (until Thursday, September 24, 2009) at the Tivoli Theatre.
