Kansas City Theaters To Show 'The Interview' Starting On Christmas

Freedom has prevailed, according to Kansas City movie theaters that said they’ll be screening The Interview starting on Christmas Day.

The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Screenland Armour theaters both made the announcement via social media on Tuesday. The two theater companies had signed a petition set up by Art House Convergence, a national coalition of independent art houses that petitioned Sony to release the film.

“When this morning they came around and said, ‘You guys can play The Interview,’ we were more than ecstatic and we just love Sony for giving us the opportunity to do it,” said Ryan Davis, creative manager and programmer at the Alamo.

Audiences apparently are ecstatic as well.

“Our phone lines are blowing up and our website is running a little slow because people are trying to get tickets to The Interview,” Davis said.

He said Alamo will show The Interview for one week. Whether it's extended, Davis said, is up to Sony.

Brent Miller of the Screenland Armour said his theater was planning on a two-week run.
