KCUR's Band Of The Week: Katy Guillen & The Girls

Katy Guillen & the Girls — the blues-rock trio of guitarist Katy Guillen, bassist Claire Adams and drummer Stephanie Williams — is one of Kansas City’s most accomplished bands, touring regularly throughout the country.

Their attack recalls classic blues-rock power trios like Cream and Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. (Reviewing their album Heavy Days last year, KCUR's Mike Warren wrote that the three musicians “absolutely tear it up.”)

On Thursday, the band plays a hometown gig at BB’s Lawnside BBQ, which, besides being known for its barbecue pit, is a formidable blues venue.

In honor of their featured status this week, here's Katy Guillen & The Girls' "Heavy Days":

Katy Guillen & the Girls, 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 at BB’s Lawnside BBQ, 1205 East 85th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, 64131; 816-822-7427.
