Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and pop-star Taylor Swift announced their engagement on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025.

Swift and Kelce, who have been dating for two years, announced their engagement Tuesday in a joint Instagram post. Kansas City institutions are already offering their spaces as wedding venues.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are engaged after two years of dating — and that doesn’t look like a paper ring.

The pair announced their engagement Tuesday in a joint Instagram post featuring a stunningly large diamond ring and a flowering garden.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” Swift and Kelce shared.

Swift has become a frequent fixture at Chief games since making her relationship with tight end Kelce public in September 2023. The announcement follows another big one she made on the New Heights podcast, introducing her next album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”

On the show, she shared how the podcast sparked their relationship when Kelce spoke about how he failed to give her a friendship bracelet at her Kansas City stop during the Eras tour, calling it a “wild romantic gesture.”

“If this guy isn't crazy, which is a big if, this is sort of what I've been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,” Swift said.

Kelce said on the podcast that he was “the luckiest guy in the world” and gave the Eras tour credit for their relationship, stating he left mesmerized and wanting to meet.

“I would have never went on here and told everybody how butthurt I was,” Kelce said. “I'd never just been so engulfed in the curiosity of who you were.”

Kelce's father told News5Cleveland that the proposal actually happened about two weeks ago — in the garden of Kelce's home. Although Ed Kelce said the location was in Lee's Summit, Missouri, Page Six reports that the football player's estate is actually in Leawood, Kansas.

"He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, 'let's go out and have a glass of wine,' ... they got out there, and that's when he asked her, and it was beautiful," Ed Kelce said in the interview. "They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great."

Kansas City responds

When the two hard-launched their relationship, StubHub reported that ticket sales for all Chiefs home games tripled for the rest of the season. Local business leaders say they’ve reaped the benefits of her frequent trips to Kansas City.

The duo have seen not only their relationship but also their professional success soar together. Swift won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2024 and Kelce gunned for a three-peat win at Super Bowl 59 earlier this year — with the pop star watching in the crowd.

The Kansas City Chiefs, on their Facebook page, wrote that "today is a fairytale," followed by heart and ring emojis.

"Congrats to Travis and Taylor — we're excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!" the organization wrote.

Mike Danna, a defensive end for the Chiefs, called the engagement a “blessing” at a news conference shortly after Swift and Kelce's announcement.

“Anytime you find that type of joy, happiness and love, I think that's a beautiful thing," Danna said.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, congratulated the couple on Instagram.

“Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love. Just so happy for these two,” Brittany Mahomes wrote, while the quarterback added three red heart emojis.

Swift and Kelce have enjoyed several date nights at restaurants and bars around the Kansas City area, including Noka, Prime Social and Piropos.

Some local businesses offered discounts Tuesday to celebrate the announcement — including specials on “SWELCE” signature drinks at the Made in KC Cafe.

Union Station announced on social media that it would light up on Tuesday in mixed colors — red and gold for the Chiefs, and orange and mint for Swift's "The Life of a Showgirl" album.

Other establishments are offering their spaces as potential wedding venues, including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Kansas City Public Library.

“Taylor and Travis, we have the perfect wedding venue for you!” the public library wrote. “Surrounded by love stories and parchment for your paper rings.”

The pair may also find their wedding officiant in Kansas City. Mayor Quinton Lucas shared a CNN interview on Instagram from earlier this year where he was asked if he’d take on the role.

“The offer still stands, BTW…” Lucas wrote.

But a challenger has already stepped up to the ring. U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, who represents Kansas City in Congress, also said he’d be willing to officiate for the couple on Twitter.

“Congratulations to the lucky couple," he wrote. "Happy to do the ceremony — just let me know.”
