Kansas City – The woman who led Kansas City police on a chase and was shot to death by them late last night was 19 years old and in a stolen SUV.

Jessica Jones was from Kansas City Kansas. Four officers fired handguns at her as she tried to drive out of a dead end street. The police account says the woman had nearly hit a police car to start the chase.

Captain Rich Lockhart says the decision to shoot was made in brief moments--"In this situation the officers felt that they were in danger of a life threatening situation or serious bodily injury. So they chose to use deadly force to stop that threat."

Police confirm the 2009 KIA Sorrento SUV driven by Jones was stolen near 83rd and Antioch in Overland Park at 7:40 Monday morning. It had been left running to warm the motor.
