The National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill has issued a winter weather advisory from 6pm this evening to 9am Thursday.
From the NWS's website:
Snow is expected to develop across the outlook area [eastern Kansas, west central Missouri and northern Missouri, including the entire Kansas City Metropolitan area] late this afternoon through this evening as a strong upper level storm system moves into the central plains. Light snow may move into extreme northwest Missouri late this afternoon with the snow increasing in coverage and intensity tonight as it spreads southeast through much of northern and central Missouri. Snowfall accumulations may be around one-quarter to one-half inch in areas west of a line from Maryville to Kansas City to Sedalia to as much as one to two inches in extreme northeast Missouri. In addition, strong northwest winds at 20 to 30 MPH may cause some blowing snow and reduced visibility. Temperatures will also fall into the teens tonight with wind chills from zero to 10 above.
Although the snow will have mostly ended by Thursday morning, road conditions may still be dangerous due to snow and ice, so those who have to be out on the roads are advised to use extra caution.
Strong northwest winds will create reduced visibility due to blowing snow. This evening the snow will melt on contact, but as temperatures drop overnight the snow will refreeze, creating potentially perilous driving conditions through Thursday morning.
