KANSAS CITY, MO. – Universities hunger to be able to give out news that UMKC did today. It's received a million dollar grant from the Sprint Foundation for the School of Education.
The grant will strengthen a program designed to improve PK through 12th grade student success in Kansas City's urban schools. The million dollars will fund an endowed professorship for five years. Wandra Brooks Green speaks for the University and says the program is set up to send better teachers into the community-- "It's called the Urban Education Research Center. And they'll conduct research, conduct and then disseminate research on local issues in schools, in urban schools."
The program is part of a decade long commitment to improving city schools and is supposed to use scientific investigation of problems facing urban schools.
