For all the talk of interest in this primary election, voting- trend watchers in and around Kansas City say the general populace doesn't seem too "fired up."
When one of the election directors for Kansas City predicts a 25 to 30 percent turnout ... and when that's considered good compared with other parts of the region, you get a view toward what factors in to the process. Director Shawn Kieffer says there are few issues on the local ballot, and many jurisdictions don't have any at all. Statewide primary races don't draw as does a presidential general election. Never have. Kieffer does say a lot of people will vote today..thinking tomorrow's polls will be crowded. In his words, "people finally have their schedule figured out on Monday and realized that on Tuesday they will not be able to make it to their polling place and so we've made it very convenient for them to go vote."
Five satellite polling places are scattered around Kansas City where you can cast an absentee ballot, even today. More about that expected turnout? Johnson County Kansas..15 to 20 percent. Clay in Missouri , Wyandotte in Kansas--perhaps below 15 percent
