KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ra'ufa Sherry Tuell recently completed a year-long chaplaincy training at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. But as the hospital's first Muslim chaplain resident, Tuell sometimes found herself becoming the trainer.
Tuell led several packed workshops for hospital staff on caring for Muslim patients, and she recently wrote a book about the topic, Islamic Approaches to Patient Care: Muslim Beliefs and Healthcare Practices for Caregivers.
She said as the Muslim population has grown, there's been a greater need for educating caregivers about Muslim patients.
KCUR's Elana Gordon caught up with Tuell at the conclusion of her St. Luke's residency.
