Medicare Recipients Urged To Guard Against Phone Scam

bigstock.com

State officials are warning Kansas senior citizens not to fall for a telephone scam aimed at Medicare beneficiaries.

The warning comes from the new Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.  Secretary Shawn Sullivan says scammers in Kansas and Missouri are trying to get confidential information that could be used to drain the bank accounts of senior citizens.

“They are being told that Medicare will be issuing them a new Medicare card, and that in order to get their new Medicare card, they need to provide the caller with their banking information," says Sullivan. "If you are a Medicare member, do not fall for it.”

Sullivan says legitimate Medicare officials never call and ask for a person’s account or banking information.
