C.J. Janovy To Lead KCUR's Journalism As Director Of Content

Longtime journalist and editor C.J. Janovy has been selected as KCUR's newest Director of Content-Journalism.

Janovy is a veteran journalist and editor, with nearly three decades of experience in editorial, digital and social media.

KCUR is pleased to announce that longtime journalist and editor C.J. Janovy has been selected as the Director of Content-Journalism. Janovy has nearly three decades of professional experience in editorial, digital and public media. She has an extensive knowledge of and commitment to the Kansas City community and is a seasoned leader.

Most recently, Janovy was part of the national States Newsroom network at the Kansas Reflector, and previously worked as an Arts Reporter then Digital Managing Editor for KCUR from 2014-2020. She also served as Director of Communications for the University of Kansas Medical Center and led the editorial department at The Pitch.

Her book, "No Place Like Home: Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas,” won the 2019 Stubbendieck Great Plains Distinguished Book Prize.

“C.J. will be an asset to KCUR,” said Lisa Rodriguez, news director. “Her editorial leadership, experience in running a newsroom and deep understanding of KCUR and the Kansas City region make her the right person at the right time for this position.”

In her role as Director of Content-Journalism, Janovy will ensure KCUR and its affiliates serve regional and local audiences with content that serves their needs and wants, while upholding the highest standards of public service in journalism and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Janovy will join the newsroom on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
