Media Project Manager - Elections 2020 - KCUR #75518
THE OPPORTUNITY
“Elections 2020: Listening to America” is a massive public media project that is ramping up quickly and on an inflexible timeline. We need a well-organized individual to keep six or more collaborative station networks moving in the right direction. Communication — and that means speaking the language of public media stations — will be critical to achieving our ambitions of bringing diverse perspectives into our reporting in this election season. The Project Manager is essential to this effort and will play a leading role in navigating the challenges ahead. KCUR 89.3, Kansas City’s NPR affiliate, is leading the central team based in Kansas City. While some of the seven-person central team may work remotely, this individual must be working in Kansas City. This project is funded by a Corporation for Public Broadcasting grant.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Project Manager will support all aspects of the Elections 2020 project, keeping priorities on track and facilitating communication on many channels and with many people. This person will be the right hand to the Managing Director, particularly in regard to administrative and creative support.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
- Manage/oversee all aspects of multiple simultaneous elements of this project, including daily administrative concerns.
- Track, update and communicate project status (timelines, progress, changes, resource use, metrics, etc.) in a proactive manner to the involved organizations in the appropriate manner.
- Maintain the calendar, schedule meetings, and prepare agendas and meeting materials.
- Project-manage special reporting projects or community engagement efforts as needed.
- Research and share best efforts in community engagement and elections/issue reporting.
- Corral project reports to CPB and others, working with the entire team to ensure accuracy in all aspects.
- Troubleshoot and resolve project issues.
- Participate in appropriate fund-raising and outreach activities, on air and off.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field required; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; and at least three years of experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five years of work experience managing editorial projects.
- Extensive experience working with a public media organization.
- Two years of experience managing a body of work.
- Ability to multi-task and oversee diverse projects simultaneously in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, creative thinking, polished writing, and willingness to pitch in on all levels
- Proven news judgment and journalistic integrity.
- Enthusiasm for the role of public media in a changing journalism environment.
- Ability to plan, develop budgets and implement projects.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with both internal and external audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various personalities.
- Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule.
- Experience collaborating with partners to create content.
SALARY AND SUPERVISION
This position reports directly to the Managing Director-Elections 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is funded by a CPB grant.
