Happy Birthdays To Nancy Wilson & Nina Simone

On this week's 12th Street Jump we celebrate the birthdays of song stylist Miss Nancy Wilson & the High Priestess of Soul, Nina Simone, with our very own Nedra Dixon.

During the hour, the 12th Street Jump gang plays “So What’s Your Question?” and we learn a bit more about Nedra in a little jam session called, ”Who’s Got the Blues?"

Miss Nancy Wilson (born February 20) began singing early on in life. She met Cannonball Adderly as a young woman, and he suggested Miss Wilson move to New York to broaden her career horizons. She did, and from there she went on to work with countless jazz, blues and pop artists and to perform on countless variety shows. She has more than 70 albums and three Grammy Awards.

Nina Simone (February 21, 1933 - April 21, 2003) is an icon of American music. Her musical style was a combination of her gospel roots, pop influences and classical piano, which she picked up at the ripe old age of three while living with her preacher parents in North Carolina. Later in her career, Miss Simone became involved in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement, and her music became an eternally iconic symbol of the times.
