Missouri Sen. Dan Hegeman On The 2019 State Budget, Transportation Funding

Brian Ellison

KCUR 89.3
Missouri state Sen. Dan Hegeman is a Republican from Cosby.

Missouri Republicans have a firm grip on the state legislature, but among the party’s leadership roles, only one is filled by someone near Kansas City.

Sen. Dan Hegeman is the Senate Majority Caucus Secretary, which is the No. 4 job in leadership. He's from Cosby, not far from St. Joseph, but his district covers 15 counties — stretching all the way down to Clay County.

Hegeman also is the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which means he has significant influence on how nearly $30 billion in state money gets spent. He spoke with KCUR's Brian Ellison about Gov. Mike Parson's recent budget proposals, Republicans’ hopes for this session and why he thinks voters should reconsider some of their decisions from the fall.
