Seg. 1: Debate KC | Seg. 2: Indigenous Eating

Segment 1: Debate KC

Two high schoolers from Kansas City, Kansas, made waves in the 2019 Urban Debate National Championships. We hear more about their experiences and find out how our town has traditionally used debate as a tool for social justice.

Segment 2, beginning at 33:14: Indigenous eating

In this conversation, we find out how a University of Kansas professor is working to educate American Indians on how they can incorporate traditional foods into their daily lives.

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
