Seg. 1: Initiative On Domestic Violence | Seg. 2: Your Inner Fish

Segment 1: New initiative on domestic violence.

Jackson County has a new intiative to protect victims of domestic violence and to stop homicides by monitoring people identified as likely to do so. In this conversation, we speak with the Jackson County prosecutor about the initiative and what she hopes the outcome will be.

  • Jean Peters Baker, Jackson County Prosecutor

Segment 2, beginning at 23:46: Your inner fish.

Humans have more in common with fish than you might think. We visit with an evolutionary biologist and paleontologist to better understand our ancestral connection with those gill-bearing, aquatic animals.

Neil Shubin will present at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public. For more information, visit Stowers.org.

People don't make cameos in news stories; the human story is the story, with characters affected by news events, not defined by them. As a columnist and podcaster, I want to acknowledge what it feels like to live through this time in Kansas City, one vantage point at a time. Together, these weekly vignettes form a collage of daily life in Kansas City as it changes in some ways, and stubbornly resists change in others.
