As part of Black History Month activities, UMKC is hosting an African-American Read In Feb. 20 and 28. Employees of the UMKC library and the public will read aloud from some of their favorite African-American literature and writing.
Some participants at the event join us to read excerpts of their favorite African-American literature that will be showcased at the Read In.
Tracey Hughes, of the Dental School Library of UMKC, reads an essay about her childhood. Scott Curtis, Research & Instruction Librarian at UMKC, read part of "In search of a majority" by James Baldwin. Dr. Anthony Shiu, an English professor at UMKC reads from the ending of "The Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison. Ashley Davis, a UMKC student, also shared her presentation about hair in the African-American community.
