Becoming American In Missouri

In 2003 he left his life working as an attorney in London and Paris and moved to the much smaller community of Columbia, Missouri. Last week, he made it official. Alex George is a U.S. citizen.Thursday on Up to Date, author Alex George talks about his real-life experience of transitioning into the U.S. and how it spilled over into his new book, A Good American.

His story follows a German family as they leave Europe for the States and eventually settle in a small Missouri town. It takes us through the multi-generational tale of what it means to put down roots in a new place.

COMING UP:  Alex George discusses A Good American this evening, February 23 at 7 at Unity Temple on The Plaza, Sanctuary, 707 W 47th Street, Kansas City, Mo.  Call Rainy Day Books in Fairway at 913 384 3126 for more information.

Alex George is a writer and a lawyer.  He was born in England, but presently lives in Columbia, Missouri. A GOOD AMERICAN was published this month; He is now hard at work on his new novel, provisionally entitled A HISTORY OF FLIGHT. Alex has been named as one of Britain’s top ten “thirtysomething” novelists by the Times of London, and was also named as the Independent on Sunday’s “face to watch” for fiction in its Fresh Talent feature. Alex read law at Oxford University and worked for eight years as a corporate lawyer in London and Paris.  He moved to the United States in 2003, and re-qualified as a US attorney.  He now runs his own law firm in Columbia, Missouri. Alex has two children, Hallam and Catherine.  His hobbies include listening to obscure jazz albums, playing his saxophone, and cooking (and eating) complicated meals.  He is proud to be President of the board of the Voluntary Action Center, a leading nonprofit organization in mid-Missouri.
