If there’s one thing the economic downturn has shown us, it’s the ability of women to adapt.

They now surpass men in getting college degrees. Many have moved into the role of family breadwinner, and more are moving into better paying jobs and the upper ranks of the business world.

For writer Hanna Rosin, these trends signaled a major shift in how our society works.
