Building bridges, swinging an axe and living in a yurt are all part of normal life for a trail worker at Glacier National Park.
On Wednesday's Up to Date, outdoorswoman and author Christine Byl joins us to talk about her experience working on the trails.
Byl's main office is the great outdoors, and to work effectively, she knows how to pack for whatever she might encounter. (Her everyday office supplies include a chainsaw.)
Christine Byl is the author of Dirt Work: An Education in the Woods. She lives on a few acres of tundra north of Denali National Park outside the town of Healy, Alaska, with her husband and an old sled dog. Byl's stories and essays have appeared in Glimmer Train Stories, Crazyhorse, The Sun, and other magazines, journals, and anthologies. She owns and operates a small trail design and construction business.
