Mezzo Soprano Joyce DiDonato's performance at the 2012 Grammy Awards

From London to New York, Joyce DiDonato has performed on some of the world's biggest stages, but Kansas City holds a special place in her heart.

In the second part of Tuesday's Up to Date, Steve Kraske talks with the Prairie Village native about her latest role in the Lyric Opera's The Capulets & The Montagues. Opera general director and CEO Deborah Sandler joins the conversation, too.

Guests:

  • Joyce DiDonato was born in Kansas and educated at Wichita State University and Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts. She won a Grammy in 2012 in the Classical Vocal Solo category. In 2010, DiDonato won the highly-prized Artist of the Year honor at the Gramophone Awards, as well as Recital of the Year award for her album Colbran: Rossini’s Muse. She also collected a German Echo Klassik Award as Female Singer of the Year. She has performed at La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera, with the New York Philharmonic in New York and London, Houston Grand Opera and here with the Kansas City Symphony at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
  • Deborah Sandler began her role as general director and CEO of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City in July 2012.
